Revo Black

Thirty-five years ago, a NASA astrophysicist and optical engineer, Dr. Mitch Ruda, had a unique idea. While working on a project for NASA, he thought to himself, “what if we used the same coatings we use to protect satellites to protect our eyes?” The next step was to take those coatings used to protect satellite portholes from space radiation and put them on a pair of glasses to protect the eyes. Thus, Revo went to space to create the best lenses on Earth.

Since 1985, when Revo redefined the sunglass industry with NASA-based lens technology, the company has remained committed to innovative design features, high-tech materials, and premium lens options. With the same lens technology that NASA developed as solar protection for satellites, every Revo lens protects from 100% of UVA, UVB, and UVC light to help prevent vision problems.

Revo Black frames are constructed of the finest materials and polarized photochromatic lenses that transition from light to dark – all including Revo’s signature mirrored lenses. The new line of lenses represents innovations of both Revo’s lens technology and frame technology, showcasing the next generation of Revo lenswear.

Bode Miller, an Olympic and World Championship gold medalist Alpine skier, collaborated with Revo to offer two new designs in the collection. Miller, who joined Revo last winter as their first- ever global winter brand ambassador, has helped develop the carbon fiber concept for his two frames, Alpine and Freestyle. These two frames offer the same photochromic protection debuted in the goggles that Bode helped design and a carbon fiber frame that is lightweight, ultra-resilient, and comfortable.

Miller, one of the most celebrated Alpine skiers in history, knows what’s necessary to protect your eyes from UV light when skiing in higher elevations. The photochromic lens darkens when exposed to UV radiation and lightens when there is less exposure. This is helpful when skiing from high alpine terrain with a ton of UV exposure into wooded areas where it is much less exposed. The same principle applies in low-light conditions to bluebird days. The photochromic technology also helps when the sun may break in and out of clouds intermittently. The lenses adjust to outside brightness levels and reduce eye fatigue, making Revo Black an excellent choice for many kinds of outdoor activities.
