My Home Base – Shannon Burns, Jet Linx National Operations Center
In each edition of My Home Base, we feature a member of the Jet Linx team from across the country and showcase what they feel makes their Jet Linx location and their city special. In this edition, meet Shannon Burns, International Operations Specialist.
Favorite part of your job: Working with our pilots to make sure each Jet Linx flight departs and arrives as scheduled – ensuring the best experience for our Jet Card clients and aircraft owners.
Describe the Jet Linx team in one word: Engaging – and fun! Every team member in our flight department has expertise and an interesting background in aviation that they bring into the department.
Favorite thing about Houston: While I do spend time at the National Operations Center in Omaha often, I’m usually working remotely from my home in Houston. I love how diverse and dynamic the city is. There are events every weekend, so you can always find something to do.
Little known fact about yourself, or favorite hobby: I flew as a WC130J loadmaster/dropsonde operator with the USAF Reserve Hurricane Hunters from 2006-2010. We didn’t fly over storms, we flew in – no higher than 10,000ft and as directed by the National Hurricane Center or the onboard Meteorologist. Reconnaissance Aircraft are an extremely valuable resource for the National Hurricane Center and NOAA. Data from each flight and dropsondes are sent directly over to the teams, and are then entered into the atmospheric models to improve the storm warning cone/forecast.
