Looking for something different than the standard luxuries of a Five-Star hotel? Vacation time can be precious, and the option to experience the unforgettable can be hard to pass up. Adventure travel provides all the hallmarks of a great escape: unforgettable memories, thrills, great cuisine, and time well-spent with those who matter most. But it does so in unexpected ways in amazing locales.

To aid in the quest for unforgettable adventure travel, Jet Linx connects our clients to Elevated Lifestyle program partner Huffman Travel and their global team of esteemed Luxury Travel Advisors. Our curated list of adventure destinations will get your blood pumping, but are not yet daring enough that special training or endless stamina is needed to enjoy your trip. Knowledgeable guides and pampering on-site service provide a mixture of bold but blissful opportunities – such as an Indian tiger safari from the seclusion of a luxury tented camp.

Rajasthan

India

This northern expanse is also home to Ranthambore National Park, a former royal hunting ground turned wildlife reserve, home to the elusive Bengal tiger, the Indian elephant, leopards, striped hyenas, caracals, wild boar and thousands of rare birds. A century ago, the area teemed with safari camps and visitors that roughed the elements for a chance to view a tiger or an elephant. While guests no longer must rough it, Sujan Sher Bagh, a member of Relais and Châteaux, echoes to a more romantic past with luxury tented camps and tiger safari experience – all fit for royalty.

Ideally situated near the entrance of Ranthambore National Park, Sher Bagh is an award-winning luxury safari camp, magnificently outfitted with 12 luxury double-bedroom tents with private verandas and ensuite bathrooms. Inspired by the safari campsites of the 1920s and favored by princes and emperors of the time, each tent is furnished with 19th-century, campaign-style furnishings, boasting rose and teak woods amid soft muslin fabrics. A private butler will attend to your every need in the tented suites, allowing guests to enjoy a stunning view of the grasslands from a private pool. Each double suite has a brand-new en suite bathroom featuring a brass bathtub and open stone shower, comfortable beds, a bubbling Jacuzzi and a veranda for all-day bird viewing. Canvas-covered solid walls keep the heating and cooling in and the critters out, and the retro-safari feel is amplified by objects such as hard-bound books, as well as antique leather valises and binocular cases.

The Land of Kings

Even with adventure serving as the main course, Sher Bagh guests can still expect chef-prepared meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For more substantial fare, traditional Indian meals are cooked outdoors in tandoor clay ovens, with ingredients picked fresh from onsite organic gardens. Guests can also take lessons on how to make a delectable lamb curry and other specialties from the stable of talented chefs on-site. Both Indian pre-set thali and more Anglo-European cuisine can be devoured under starry skies in private atmospheric nooks. Imagine sipping pomegranate mojitos under the golden light of lanterns and a campfire, harkening back to a bygone era of exploration and adventure.

While the accommodations at Sher Bagh rival any luxury safari on the planet, the caliber of their safari guides and vehicles (specially kitted for the smoothest ride) makes for a truly signature factor. For a VIP experience, opt for a Jeep safari versus a group car for game drives. Beginning in the morning, Jeep safaris will waft guests away to magical forests with undulating hills where jackal, leopard, mongoose and sloth bear roam. Further down the path leads to ancient temples and charming towns with historic fortresses and crumbling ruins, making for epic postcard material.

Sher Bagh’s guides offer incredible knowledge of the park and the behavior of its star inhabitant, the Bengal tiger, together with their passionate enthusiasm, make a stay here unparalleled. There are only 3,200 wild tigers of six unique species left in the world, 56 of which can be found roaming Ranthambore National Park.
