Why I Fly – John Fowler, Jet Linx Aviation

It’s often said, “Ask any pilot how they started flying, and you will hear a love story.” Jet Linx Pilot John Fowler and find out how he discovered his passion for flight.

My flying interest started when I went to spend summers with my uncle, a career army soldier at Fort Bliss, Texas. He took me to Biggs army airfield and I got to meet aviators and watch all the helicopters and airplanes doing training. This was during my early teenage years, and it made a big impression on me.

Later on during high school, I got the opportunity to fly in a Texas game warden Cessna and the officer actually let me take the controls! That was it – I decided I wanted to be a professional pilot. I joined the U.S. Army after high school and applied for and was accepted for flight school.

After a 32 year military career flying many types of aircraft, I retired from the service and began my corporate and charter flying career. I have never regretted this decision, and I still feel like every day flying confirms what I always wanted to do for a living. After seven years as a full time employee with Jet Linx, I have transitioned into a per diem citation XL pilot. Every trip is a new challenge, and that is really what I enjoy.
