Telluride Ski and Golf Resort is perched atop the San Juan Mountains, offering access to the highest concentration of 13,000- and 14,000-foot peaks in North America.
World-class skiing, riding, golf, and dining only add to the already elevated experience that Telluride offers. Beginner and expert riders have unlimited choices on the 148 trails and 2,000 skiable acres, serviced by 17 different lifts.
While consistently being ranked the #1 ski resort in North America by Conde Nast Traveler, Telluride refuses to rest on its laurels. Telluride Ski and Golf Resort Partner and CEO Bill Jensen revealed that in 2019, a total of $8 million was invested throughout the property to improve and expand offerings to both adventure-seekers and those seeking rest and relaxation.
“Part of our master development plan is the continued development of our chairlift-serviced mountain bike park, which we have been working on for the past year,” Jensen explained. “Another piece of exciting news is the buildout of a five-stage canopy tour. This is a network of ziplines with sky bridges and a repelling station, and will open next June.”
The system of canopies is being designed and built by Bonsai Design, a local company operating out of Grand Junction, CO. Bonsai Design builds, installs, maintains, and operates zip line tours, zip line rides, rope courses, and other aerial trekking parks. They have installed and designed all over the country, from the Redwood Forest in California to the Appalachians. Their canopy tour at Telluride will begin service in June 2020.
“We also have two large projects coming this winter. One is the glading of 6,000 trees in our Chair 9 skiing terrain, one of the more popular Black and Double Black Diamond skiing pods. This will open up significant areas of tree skiing that will enhance the skiing experience in that pod,” Jensen commented. “We’re also investing almost $1.5 million in snowmaking technology to enhance our early season snow surfaces and keep trails in tip-top shape.”
For a one-of-a-kind experience in winter 2019, Jensen recommends the Alpino Vino restaurant for Jet Linx clients. Alpino Vino is the highest elevation fine-dining restaurant in North America, serving patrons at 11,966 feet. The exclusive yet quaint European-style hut offers leisurely lunches and a reservation-only dinner service.
Alpino Vino specializes in Northern Italian cuisine, and the interior of the restaurant features furniture crafted from reclaimed wine barrels, stone floors, and wood-burning fireplaces. Guests often feel as if they’ve been transported to the Northern Italian Alps as they sit on the multi-tiered outdoor deck, covered in sheepskin blankets. The dinner menu rotates, but Chef Nico Peccedi is well-known for wild mushroom ragout with creamy polenta. Diners will also find a well-curated wine list with bottles from Italy, California, and France.
“From the gondola, you take a 20-minute ride in an outfitted snow coach directly to the front door of the restaurant,” Jensen revealed. “As soon as you step out of the vehicle, a concierge pours a glass of Prosecco, which is a perfect way to begin a wine pairing and five-course meal. It’s one of the most unique dining experiences you’ll ever have.”
If world-class cuisine doesn’t get your blood pumping, then a heli-skiing adventure surely will. Telluride is one of the only resorts in North America to offer heli-skiing on its grounds. Intermediate to expert skiers will have the opportunity to book helicopters through Telluride Helitrax. The Helitrax Eurocopter S350 B3e helicopter allots guests exclusive access to over 200 square miles of high alpine basins, cirques and summits. Backcountry enthusiasts can expect an average of six runs over the course of a day, totaling approximately 10,000 to 14,000 vertical feet.
When skiing and snowboarding lose their luster, you can opt for a full day or a half day of a guided snowmobile adventure through the backcountry of Telluride with two different outfitters. However, reservations fill up quickly, so now is the time to make a plan and secure your tour! Other guided adventures include snowshoeing, snowbiking, ice climbing, backcountry skiing, plus a variety of activities for kids.
There’s good reason why Telluride Ski & Golf Resort is consistently ranked as the best in North America: they continually offer bespoke adventures throughout their world-class properties. Whether it is epic skiing on uncrowded, high-altitude runs or the unpretentious mountain-town atmosphere, Telluride knows how to provide extraordinary experiences for those seeking a luxury winter escape.
It’s inconceivable, really. Skiing in 420,080 acres with only a handful of other people.
Above all, private trips deliver unparalleled skiing. They’re also the reason why for the last four months, CMH Bobbie Burns has undergone an $8.4 million renovation – the largest infrastructure project undertaken at the company since 2002.
While the project sees a complete redesign and modernization of existing rooms, the main objective was to create an entirely new wing at the remote lodge – and not merely for cosmetic reasons. The architectural addition allows CMH to offer a brand new four-person private Heli-Skiing program at the Bobbie Burns as of December 2019.
“We are investing in the mountains, our people, and planning for the long-term future. The redevelopment is part of CMH’s ongoing commitment to continue to elevate both the guest and employee experience,” said Jeremy Levitt, President of CMH. “I am pleased that the addition of the private Heli-Skiing program will enable us to provide more life-changing mountain experiences for our guests in one of the most coveted tenures in the world.”
So what makes private trips at the revered CMH Bobbie Burns worth your time? Simply put, if the ultimate ski experience is Heli- Skiing, then the definitive way to enjoy Heli-Skiing is with a private trip. When you choose the new private program at CMH Bobbie Burns, just you and three friends have exclusive use of the smaller 407 helicopter, as well as two professionally accredited guides. This gives you tremendous flexibility to not only set your own pace but to maximize your time in the mountains.
Do you have friends with legs of steel and a penchant for hard-lining first tracks? Or perhaps you’d rather make relaxed turns to breathe in the big views? Either way, private trips allow you to set the speed best suited to you and your group.
The variety of skiing at the Bobbie Burns pairs perfectly with the program. Comprising of alpine bowls and rolling glaciers, dropping from high peaks to valley floors through mature forests, all at your pace in your heli allows you to take full advantage of what’s on offer from the landscape.
The lodge expansion was part of a company-wide investment this year. A further $1.2 million was spent on run development throughout CMH’s tenures. Approximately half of the funds were allocated toward the Bobbie Burns to support the expansion project with improved access and development around the lodge. The remainder is focused on glading, spacing and brushing activity across the other CMH locations.
As the pioneers of Heli-Skiing, CMH has maintained its tireless focus on one thing: providing access to the world’s greatest ski terrain. It’s there where you’ll find the endless powder runs that you crave in-resort, and incredible tree runs allowing for perfectly timed turns within ancient forests. The offerings are unrivaled and seemingly endless. In a place that’s as close to heaven as one can get, it’s a skiing adventure that’s indisputably the very best on Earth. With over 50 years in the industry and the largest team of fully certified guides in the world, CMH is the world’s leading provider of Heli-Skiing.
